Antoni Tąpies’ public works
For Antoni Tąpies, art is a road to knowledge and a way of transforming people’s consciences. This social role of art is always present in a coherent manner not only in his visual, but also in his literary works.
Antoni Tąpies’ commitment to the public sphere acquires an even greater significance in the works described below.
All of these works have in common the fact that they are installed in public spaces, although not all of them were specifically conceived for those spaces. Nevertheless, the way the work interacts with the community, and its collective commitment lends those spaces their public character, whether they are urban spaces or institutions where public life and social events take place.
All of these works have free access, although, in some cases, it is necessary to consult the opening hours of the institutions that house them.
The Fundació organises guided tours of Antoni Tąpies’ public works in the city of Barcelona. The aim is to encourage reflection on the concept of urban spaces and public art works.
