Condolences on the death of Louise Bourgeois

Fundació Antoni Tąpies expresses its condolence for the death of the artist Louise Bourgeois, who passed away last Monday May 31st, in New York, at the age of 98.

In 1990, shortly after opening its doors to the public, Fundació Antoni Tąpies organised a retrospective exhibition of Bourgeois’ work. The 160 or so works that made up the exhibition, mostly sculptures but also paintings, drawings and engravings, showed her evolution as an artist, from her first productions in the 1940’s up to that present moment, by way of the provocative sculptures of the 1960’s and 1970’s. The exhibition also showed how she had captured throughout her career certain personal themes and obsessions, whilst revealing her singular personality and the intensity of her work as a whole.
