The Decolonial Turnaround and Geopolitics of Knowledge

Lecture

With

Walter D. Mignolo (Lecturer)

The decolonial turnaround is a criticism of modernity based on colonialism and, as such, is its uncompromising difference with Euro-centric critical theories. Its genealogy originates at the same time in which the colonial matrix of power was born, in the 16th century.

The author holds that the forms of production of knowledge are and have been a form of colonial domination, because, like the economy and politics, knowledge has also been historically organised according to centres of power and subordinate regions.
